"Booklet imposition" is the reordering trick print shops use to turn a plain, in-order document into a fold-and-staple booklet: instead of printing page 1, then page 2, then page 3 in sequence, the pages are shuffled so that when a stack of double-sided sheets is folded in half down the middle, the pages land back in perfect 1, 2, 3… reading order. This tool computes that reordering for you — drop in a PDF, pick A4 or Letter sheets, and it produces a new PDF where each output page is one landscape sheet with two of your original pages already placed side by side in the correct imposed order, ready to print.
To actually get a booklet out of the result: print the downloaded PDF double-sided with your printer set to flip on the short edge (not the long edge — that's the detail that trips most people up), stack the sheets in the order they printed, fold the whole stack in half at once, and staple through the fold (saddle-stitch). If your original document's page count isn't a multiple of 4, a few blank filler pages are automatically added at the end so every sheet comes out full — everything happens locally in your browser, no file ever leaves your device.

What does "flip on short edge" mean when printing?
It's a duplex (double-sided) printing setting that controls how the back side is oriented relative to the front once you flip the physical page over. Since booklet sheets are landscape, using the wrong flip setting ("long edge") will print the back side upside-down relative to the front — always choose "flip on short edge" (sometimes called "flip on top") for booklet imposition specifically.
Why do blank pages get added if my document isn't a multiple of 4?
A physical sheet of paper folded in half always creates exactly 4 printed page-sides (front-left, front-right, back-left, back-right), so a booklet must always be built from a multiple of 4 total pages — if your document isn't, blank filler pages are added at the end (where they'll appear as blank pages at the very back of the finished booklet) to round up to the next multiple of 4.
