X (formerly Twitter) reads its own family of meta tags — twitter:card, twitter:title, twitter:description, twitter:image and twitter:site — to build the preview card shown when someone shares your link. This is a separate standard from Open Graph, with two layouts: summary_large_image shows a wide image across the top with a small text block below, while summary keeps a compact square thumbnail beside the title and description. Use the large-image layout for blog posts and articles, and summary for utility pages where the text matters more than the visual.
X does fall back to the matching og: tag for any twitter: property it can't find — og:title, og:description and og:image cover the gaps — so a page with only Open Graph tags still gets a card, just without X-specific control.
